
Caleb Dowden is a dancer, choreographer, educator, and researcher from New Orleans, Louisiana. In 2021, she graduated from the State University of New York at Purchase with her Bachelor of Fine Art degree in dance. During her four years as a student in the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College, she performed contemporary works by Maiya Redding and Rena Butler as well as classic 20th century work by José Limon and Martha Graham. At the conclusion of her time at SUNY Purchase, Caleb Dowden became a Thayer Fellow/ Patricia Kerr Ross awardee, the 2021 Chancellor Award recipient for Student Excellence, the 2021 President's Award for Achievement in Dance, and the recipient of the 2021 Vice President of Student Affairs Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Quality of Student Life at SUNY Purchase. As a 2021 recipient of a Fulbright Independent Research Award from the U.S. Department of State/ J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and a Fulbright Hay's Fellowship with SUNY Purchase (July 2023), Caleb's choreographic work and research has been presented locally and internationally. As the Director of Dow-Dance Company, Caleb Dowden produces choreographic work at the intersection of African history and culture with a unique vision of (re)connecting the African diaspora to the African continent.
