Gomela is back on tour and headed to Detroit! Join us as Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History presents the regional premiere of Gomela/To Return: Movement of Our Mother Tongue on September 15th and 16th at the Detroit School of the Arts.
Gomela/to Return: Movement of Our Mother Tongue, directed by Stephanie McKee-Anderson and developed by dancers Kesha McKey, Kai Knight, Jeremy Guyton, poet Sunni Patterson and drummer Jawara Simon, is a ceremony of the collective memory of the the Black Experience.
Gomela explores the vibrant stories of Black historic reality through a contemporary expression of spoken word, hip hop and jazz. Representing the survival of Black people from New Orleans and beyond, Gomela is an illustration of courage, survival, resilience, and hope that exist is the face of oppression.
